A remarkable 18th-century winter landscape by Francesco Foschi, an Italian painter celebrated for his atmospheric depictions of snow-covered landscapes.

Foschi made the winter landscape his speciality, creating dramatic scenes of frozen rivers, distant mountains and figures travelling through vast expanses of snow. Here, the river and mill are enveloped within a beautifully observed wintry landscape, capturing the distinctive sense of light, scale and atmosphere for which his work is known.
